I have always held the strange
feeling that one day my life
would be taken
at the mercy
of another human being's
bad intentions

Maybe I feel this way
because it has happened before
and before that too
And I can feel
And I can see
  sometimes
the person I was then
and how pieces of her
are still with me

I close my eyes
and reach out to her
I ask her
to please
   show me
what happened to me
For knowing my future
will help
