DIY Floral Desk Cup

1:47 AM

If you are anything like me, (which may be either a very good, or a very unfortunate thing), you're probably a tea-drinking-machine...
or coffee...or anything that goes inside of cute little cups, for that matter. As a person who is weirdly obsessed with teas, I must say, chipping or breaking my favorite cup always sucks on ice.

Recently, I purchased a super-cute mug from a yard sale, and I seriously could not wait to come home and start sipping on some unsweetened Vanilla Chai-flavored tea.

Here is a picture of the awesome cup that never touched my lips.

      Cute, right? RIGHT??!?!?!

Ouch.

Unfortunately, it didn't travel home well, and I was a little upset because I hadn't gotten a single use out of it. It was so cute, and I didn't want to just chuck it in the trash.

The next time this happens to you, consider if you can use it for something else before throwing it away.

In this DIY tutorial, I am going to show you how to up cycle a cracked cup into a floral desk cup.

TIME:

15-20 Minutes

YOU WILL NEED:

*Glue Gun
You can buy this from a craft store for as low as $2.
*Glue Sticks
You don't need that many, I'm just being really dramatic.
*Artificial Flowers
If your Nana doesn't have a box of these in her attic, you can score them at the Dollar Tree for a $1, or at your local craft store for a little more than that.
*Scissors
*A Cup
(Those found in cupboards, not drawers....)

 WHAT TO DO:

1. Start off by cutting the "stems" off of the flipside of the flowers.

Cut it as close as you can to make it as flat as possible.

2. Plug in your glue gun and apply glue. The glue dries and hardens pretty fast, so, once you start, move with conviction. If you make a mistake, the glue can sometimes be peeled away once it dries.

Take your time, but, move fast...if that makes any sense.
 3. Place on the cracked area on the cup, and apply pressure until it dries. Be careful not to touch the metal part of the gun, it gets very hot!

Drying can take anywhere between 5-30 seconds, depending on thickness of glue.

I applied tiny dabs of glue to the tips of the petals so they wouldn't stay sticked up.
 4. Repeat with more flowers. You can use as many as you'd like, and you can even experiment with different varieties, like a garden.

Voila! You now have a super-cute, super-unique, and super-functional desk cup.
This also makes a wonderful last-minute gift for that one super-organized person in your life.

This is my everyday reminder that being an uber-klutz isn't always such a bad thing.
